Metabolic Types

We're Not All the Same!

There have been several ways that various researchers have looked at the way our metabolism works. However, there are areas of similarity in the definitions that seem to be accepted by all points of view. Certainly, the core of the concept is that not everyone is the same in the basis of their metabolic function.

Defining the types by endocrine organ that the body relies on for energy and stamina has proven itself for many years as true and reliable. These types have body proportions peculiar to them selves and require particular attention in order for weight control, energy and strength to be at the highest levels.

The four metabolic types are: Pituitary, Adrenal, Thyroid, and Gonadal.

The Pituitary Type

The pituitary governs the entire endocrine (or hormone producing) system. Naturally, it is crucial to keep this organ in top shape in order to ensure the function of the other glands that rely on it's information ad direction. Excess weight, for this body type, tends to be carried at the mid-body and shoulders. Sunshine, good food and a brisk walk in the morning help to keep the pituitary and the sister glands of the brain, the hypothalamus and pineal glands, strong and active. The tendency to be "brainy" and over think, worry and dwell on troubles will weaken this delicate gland. When nutrients are in proper amounts, organs are cleansed, a positive attitude is kept and an uplifting morning routine is instituted, the pituitary boosts the activity of the whole system.

The Adrenal Type

The adrenal gland is responsible for hundreds of functions. Most people know the "fight or flight" chain reaction instigated by signals to this organ that allows us to protect our selves. One very draining problem seen in modern society is that constant stress is keeping the "fight or flight" mechanism turned on all the time and burn out is happening at ever increasing rates. Extra weight is carried mainly in the upper body, tending to be "stocky". Adrenal types are very strong and tend to push themselves to the limit, at work and at play. When they feel they cannot go on, they push themselves by sheer will power alone. This is the "crash and burn" type because when the adrenals fail to keep up, this type succumbs to all manner of today"s prevalent diseases and becomes very upset with life. Appropriate nutrients, relaxing activities, and cleanse programs get this type back on track.

The Thyroid Type

The thyroid governs many physical functions and plays a part in the emotional balance of everyone. Becoming underweight or flaccid and "watery" is a problem here. This type starts life with a lot of energy but puberty, childbearing and the changes of middle age are key periods for distress. Loss of energy, low mood, a feeling of being "stuck" and sluggishness as well as toxicity are problems. Particular nutrients, lots of exercise (especially outside) and organ cleansing are necessary for this type to regain vitality and excitement for life.

The Gonadal Type

This type applies to females only. Weight for this type is carried almost exclusively in the lower body. This type has many similarities to the thyroid type but the driving force for this group is the reproductive organs. There is greater strength and less stress for the reproductive part of life but the same tendency for sluggish toxicity and depression as the thyroid type is seen if care is not taken when the gonads would normally be stressed with puberty, ovulation, pregnancy, and lactation. Proper nutrients and rest, plenty of exercise, outside activity (often avoided) and cleanse programs make a world of difference for this type.

Define Your Type!

Defining your metabolic type (many people are a mix of more than one) is a great resource for understanding your core needs and caring for your body in the most appropriate way. Keeping your weight regulated, feeling abundant energy, maintaining a positive outlook on life, and staying young require knowledge of your type.
